Champions Again! Print

The Storm completed their first season with the same style and excellence that it began.  On a sunny, cold November weekend, The Vienna Storm was crowned Champions of the MCSA Fall Classic in Prince William, Virginia.  Despite being down two players and having only 1 substitute, the weekend started with a solid 4-0 effort against Mclean.  In the afternoon, with fatigue starting to creep in, the Storm beat Arlington Juventus 5-1  and qualified for the semi-final match against the host team from MCSA.  On Sunday morning with temperatures more bearable and Wittney's return to the land of the living, the Storm cruised to a 5-0 victory and earned a spot in the final.  And what a final it was.

The championship game was really a tale of three games.  In the first half, the Storm came out with new found energy and goals by Amanda and Lillian put the Storm ahead 3-1 at half time.  But the tank was almost empty.  Arlington Ajax came out with a vengeance and determination in the 2nd half and scored within the first minute of the half.  The Storm were exhausted and Ajax continued to put in fresh legs and apply tremendous pressure. With heavy legs and empty lungs, the Storm defenders, Sidney and Lauren with the help of Sophia, Kaitlyn and Madison put up a valiant effort.  Noelle was injured by an onrushing Ajax team, but found the courage to jump back in the fray.  By the end of the game the scored stood tied at 3.  OVERTIME!  I don't where it came from.  I don't know how it happened.  But I know I am still in awe of the Storm's final 10 minutes.  Somewhere deep inside each of the players, they found the will to compete and the desire to win.  With Mia encouraging her teammates from the sideline and Wittney, with energy that she must have stolen from somewhere,  the Storm created several several scoring chances and the game winning goal that Lillian buried in the back of the net.  It is a game that defined this team as a group of girls who have more heart and courage and character than can be described with words.  Congratulations Storm! I couldn't be more proud!
